What’s the Difference Between a Vitamin and a Mineral?

Minerals are basically, made from single atoms, and are elements. When we think of an element, we’re talking about Oxygen, Hydrogen, Nitrogen (which usually occur as a gas, unless they’re at super low temperatures) or calcium, iron, potassium, which are solids. Usually elements occur in some combination, so water is 2 hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.

Although iron may stand alone, many metallic elements combine with another element, but in our food, these are pretty simple. So, for example iron oxide is iron with oxygen, or rust. Its red color is what makes our blood red color.  Salt, or Sodium Choride, is made of one sodium and one chlorine atom.
